I think I have so many posts on films and music reviews in my blog. I do not know, maybe I like to bitch about things. But only good things. Recently, I managed to grab pirated copy of Bintang Jatuh ; Rudi Soedjarwo’s first movie. In addition, what makes me proud is I am the last person who managed to buy a VCD seconds before the VCD pirates try to run away from the “pihak berkuasa tempatan”. Cool. Here is my review on Bintang Jatuh.

At first, I kinda get bored because of the fact that I am watching an amateur movie made by amateur director. Nevertheless, things spice up a bit when I finally realize how cute Indra Birowo is. Gosh, I could marry him in a second. The main reason why I like him despite his plain and homely face is that he looks a bit like someone who I adore currently. S****. Take a guess. I bet you could not. By the way, Dian is as gorgeous as ever and a good actress as she is already is now back then. If I am not mistaken, the movie is released circa 2000s. Gary still plays the crook that babes love to love and chicks like me love to hate. Marcella is kinda dull despite her great performance in Brownies. Maybe it is her first appearance in a movie. So she is excused.

The movie revolves around Aira and his obsession about Celli; the common hot babe which every one in the MIT college longs for. Aira is a new student in MIT and he stumbled upon Celli wearing a scarf that looks very familiar to him. Of course its familiar because he dreamed about it every night. He is damn sure that Celli is the girl in his dreams and he wants her. By hook or by crook. Therefore, he starts his strategies to attract Celli by crazy but cute strategies namely; asking his friend, Dariel to become a snatch thieve so he could become a hero, writing poetry, pretending to be the crook’s friend. All of this is his efforts to win Celli’s heart.

Little did he know that Dona, a dark, mysterious girl whom he made friend with. Dona, played by Dian is a character that I held close to my heart because we kinda have the same qualities and most important, both of us possessed the disability to express feelings towards somebody that we really, I mean, REALLY like. Despite her un-fondness towards Aira’s obsession on Celli, she still helps him to chase Celli, his so-called-girl-of-his-dreams. She reads his poem, rewrite it whenever she feels necessary and encourage Aira to face Celli. Still, she loves him even more.

Aira finally feels that Celli is not the girl in his dreams before this. He is quite sure that she is not the one. Yeah, screw you. Then, Dariel made Aira’s blind eyes open. He tells Aira that he must be sensitive towards his environment and he should have known that Dona loves him since, like, forever!

Why “Bintang Jatuh”? Because that’s what Dona wished upon when she wants Aira back and she wants to say the four letter word to him. No. Not that F word. I love this movie and I really want a chance to tell my-currently-most-favourite-guy-on-earth that I like him and I don’t want to lose him to some other slutty-chicks who only use 5 percent of their brain. F-ing sluts.

REPUBLIC OF LOVE

Izal, my brother loves Dewa. I seldom listened to Dewa. When I strolled down the pasar malam the other day, I chanced upon Dewa’s pirated copy of Republik Cinta. I was thinking of buying it for Izal. So I grabbed on the CD and paid for it. Well, what can I say is: it’s worth spending 8 ringgit for. I changed my mind and decided not to give the CD to my darn brother. I fell in love with the CD immediately. Right from the first track until the last track, I’m head over heels. I think I will never felt this way again after the last listening and repeating to the same track over and over again. I skip lunch, and bath for it. I can’t seem to take off my earphones out of my half-deaf ear. I even restrict myself to pee.

Republik Cinta to me is an album full of surprises the first time you listen to it and it will grow on you even if you hate Dewa before this. I ‘m not saying that I hated Dewa before this, but I’ll place them in the “less-fond-of” category. Republik  Cinta made me fell in love with Once’s voice. The track “Perasaanku Tentang Perasaanku Kepadamu ” made me instantly desire to be Once’s groupie chick. “Lover’s Rhapsody” makes me wonder how good it is to become Once’s woman. Okay, enough on my new obsession of Once.

Moving on to other tracks on Republik Cinta, “Laskar Cinta” to me is Dewa’s signature track a bit of Arabic beats in it. “Sedang Ingin Bercinta” makes me want to search for Inul Daratista’s full album and buy it for my mum, dad, brothers, sister-in-laws, etc. Just kidding. I hate Inul. But I love this track. And you’ll understand what I mean when I mentioned Inul before, right after you listen to this track. It’s hard not to love every single track on this album. Prove me wrong dude. I’m totally drowned in this album. But still, there’s one track that makes me sway and I can listen to this song up to 3598459843 times a day. Still, that is not enough to show you how I adore this song. “Selimuti Hati”. For me, it’s a killer song for people like me; a sucker for ballads. All of the other tracks that I haven’t mentioned here don’t mean it sucks. All of the songs in Republik Cinta are good enough to make you pay for 42 bucks for the original ones. Whereas, for me, why waste 42 bucks when you can get it for 8. HAIL TO THE PIRACY! (And my new found love for Dewa 19)
